Casting is complete for the world premiere of Charles L. White's Gong Lum’s Legacy. Presented by Woodie King Jr.’s New Federal Theatre in association with The Peccadillo Theater Company, the limited run is scheduled for March 24-April 24 at Theatre at St. Clement's.
Directed by Elizabeth Van Dyke with associate direction by Dan Wackerman, the cast will feature Anthony Goss (Sankofa), Alinca Hamilton (Julius Cesar), Hansel Tan (Ping Pong), DeShawn White (The Girls of Summer), and Henry Yuk (Yellow Fever).
Gong Lum’s Legacy takes place in 1925 in the Mississippi Delta. Set against the backdrop of the Jim Crow South, the play concerns the romance that blooms between Joe Ting (Tan), a Chinese immigrant, and Lucy Sims (White), a Black school teacher.
The production will also have set design by Chris Cumberbatch, lighting design by Victor En Yu Tan, costume design by Ali Turns, sound design by David Wright, and properties design by Marlon Campbell. The stage manager is Bayo, and the assistant stage manager is Chrystal Campbell with casting by Lawrence Evans Casting.
