Broadway’s cult classics—shows that attracted a relatively small but utterly devoted following—will be showcased in New York City September 30 by a group of emerging talents at Feinstein’s/54 Below cabaret.

The 11:30 PM concert will highlight songs that reflect “themes of activism, identity, and propaganda.” Proceeds will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union.

Bruce Baumer will serve as host and musical director of the evening, which will feature songs from Side Show, Carrie, The Rocky Horror Show, Heathers, Urinetown, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and other “under-appreciated” shows.

The playlist includes:

“Don't Be The Bunny” (Urinetown)
“Let Me Walk Among You” (Bat Boy)
“Who Will Love Me As I Am?” (Side Show)
“Listen to Jesus, Jimmy” (Reefer Madness)
“Origin of Love ” (Hedwig and the Angry Inch)
“They Just Keep Moving the Line” (Smash)

An Evening of Cult Classics to Benefit the ACLU will feature performances by MJ Rodriguez (A.R.T.’s Burn All Night), Kris Roberts (Beautiful), Robert Zelaya (Kinky Boots tour), Theresa Burns (My Big Gay Italian Wedding), Jessica Hanson (Reefer Madness), Yamuna Meleth, Darrell Purcell, Jr., Kabir Bery, Stephanie Lourenco Viegas, Tripp Fountain, and Amalia Tollas.

Burns, who will direct and perform, said, “The ACLU has had their hands full since January. When horrifying legislation is passed or tweeted, the ACLU immediately jumps in to defend those affected. They are fighting like crazy and we want to help. Now, we are not lawyers, but we are huge theatre nerds and performers who love cult musicals. So, come have a few drinks with us and help us help the ACLU.“

Jessica Hanson will also be Burns’ associate director. The evening is being produced by Brian Scanlan.

Tickets cost $15 to $35 plus a $20 food/drink minimum, and can be ordered at 54below.com. 54 Below is located at 254 West 54th Street in Manhattan, below Studio 54.
