Brooke Adams (Lend Me a Tenor, The Heidi Chronicles) has replaced the previously announced JoBeth Williams (The Big Chill, Body Awareness) in the New York premiere of Sandra Tsing Loh's Madwomen of the West, which will begin previews November 11 prior to an official opening December 11 Off-Broadway at the Actors Temple Theatre.
Adams joins the previously reported Caroline Aaron (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Social Security), Marilu Henner (Taxi, Chicago), and Melanie Mayron (Thirtysomething, Godspell).
Tony-nominated producer, educator, and dramaturg Christopher Burney has also joined the production as the creative consultant. Thomas Caruso will direct Madwomen of the West, which is currently scheduled to continue through January 1, 2024.
The play is set in Jules' Brentwood mansion, where Marilyn, who is
sugar-cleansing, is throwing a surprise birthday brunch for Claudia, who
hates birthdays. Their long-estranged celebrity friend Zoey crashes the
party, fresh from her TED Talks.
The design team for the new comedy will be announced at a later date.
Loh is the author of The Madwoman in the Volvo: My Year of Raging Hormones, which was selected as one of the New York Times' 100 Most Notable Books. Her previous book, Mother on Fire,
was inspired by her hit solo show about Los Angeles public education. Her other solo shows include Aliens in America and Bad Sex With Bud Kemp (both Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre), Sugar Plum Fairy (Geffen Playhouse, Seattle Rep, East West Players), and I Worry (Kennedy Center, Actor's Theatre of Louisville).
DOS Media Lab produces with Deco Rose Productions.
