Broadway News Broadway's Come From Away Plays Final Performance October 2

The Tony-nominated musical completes over five years running at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

Broadway's Come From Away plays its last of 1,670 regular performances at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre October 2. The Schoenfeld's longest-running tenant tells the true story of 7,000 air passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Come From Away currently stars Petrina Bromley, De’Lon Grant, Becky Gulsvig, Caesar Samayoa, James Seol, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren, Emily Walton, Jim Walton, Gene Weygandt, Sharon Wheatley, Paul Whitty, Josh Breckenridge, John Jellison, Tony LePage, Monette McKay, Happy McPartlin, and Julie Reiber. The ensemble cast take on a variety of roles, from travelers to locals to airline personnel.

The production began its 25 preview performances February 18, 2017, and officially opened March 12, 2017. It received seven 2017 Tony nominations including Best Musical; Christopher Ashley took home the award for Best Director of a Musical. The original opening night cast starred Chad Kimball, as well as Petrina Bromley, Geno Carr, Jenn Colella, Joel Hatch, Rodney Hicks, Kendra Kassebaum, Lee MacDougall, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren, Sharon Wheatley, Josh Breckenridge, Susan Dunstan, Tamika Lawrence, and Tony LePage.

Featuring music, lyrics, and a book by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Ashley helmed the production which features choreography by Olivier winner Kelly Devine, music supervision and arrangements by Ian Eisendrath, scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Gareth Owen, orchestrations by August Eriksmoen, and casting by Rachel Hoffman of The Telsey Office.

Come From Away is currently playing tours in North America and Australia, and received four Oliviers for its West End production, including Best Musical, which continues to play on the London stage. Come From Away is set to return to Toronto following a run at Ottawa's National Arts Centre in 2024.
