Grosses Broadway Grosses Analysis: The Phantom of the Opera's Box Office Continues to Soar After Announcing Historic Closing

The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical will end its record-breaking run in February 2023.

Last week's rising winners continued their upward trajectory this week, with The Phantom of the Opera coming in as the sixth highest-grossing show on the Main Stem with $1.3 million in receipts and Funny Girl, newly starring Lea Michele and Tovah Feldshuh, breaking into the top five as the fourth highest-grossing with $1.63 million.

Audiences have been flocking to Phantom since the long-running hit announced its historic, 35-year run will come to a close in February 2023. Last week brought the production its first over-100% capacity score since 2017. This week dipped slightly to 98.2%, but a higher average ticket price allowed the show to bring in over $100,000 more than the last.

Speaking of long-running musicals closing, Come From Away enjoyed a successful final week of its run, bringing in $1 million and filling the Schoenfeld Theatre to standing-room-only at 101.86%. The production had been on an upward trajectory as its final performance neared, with the final week jumping by more than $100K to bring in the run's first million-dollar week since the pandemic.

Total grosses fell slightly, from $26.37 million to $25.31 million, with Rosh Hashanah falling during the week. Attendance remains high, with a cumulative 87.29% of seats filled, down just slightly from last week's 92.55%.
