Spring isn't [officially] here yet, but the spring breakers sure appear to be! Broadway saw a 14% bump in box office last week compared to the week previous, reflecting a noticeable uptick for almost all of the 25 currently running shows. Spring technically starts today, March 19—so here's to this being the beginning of a powerful trend.

The shows that saw the biggest boost last week were The Lion KingMJ The Musical, and Wicked, each of which saw an increase in excess of $250,000 compared to the week prior. That helped all three maintain their spot in the top five highest grossers of the week, a distinction led by The Lion King with $2.11 million and Wicked with $2.1 million. Hamilton and Merrily We Roll Along took the third and fourth spots, respectively, with MJ taking the fifth.

Looking at the Main Stem's newest crop of shows, The Outsiders may be setting itself up as a hot ticket. The new musical only played one preview last week, but it was completely sold out and brought in $149,970, a sum that could land it in The $1 Million Club in its first full week. Stay tuned. An Enemy of the People is also continuing to perform well, bringing in just shy of $1 million even with several heavily comped press performances. The Jeremy Strong-led revival of the Ibsen play opened March 18, so we'll see that title's full potential in the coming weeks.

For the most part, Broadway's fortunes were good last week on the whole. Nearly all seats were filled—93.62% to be exact—thanks to 219,954 people seeing a show. And those theatregoers were paying well for the entertainment, with the average ticket price rising by nearly $10 to $127.57.
