A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical brought in $1,008,021 at the Broadhurst box office for the week ending September 10, the first week the bio musical about Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Neil Diamond has offered a Thursday matinee. It's also the first time the musical, starring Will Swenson, has been in the $1 Million Club since May.
The highest-grossing production of the week was, once again, the Disney hit The Lion King, which earned $1,850,459. Rounding out the top five were Hamilton ($1,746,638), Sweeney Todd ($1,593,122), MJ the Musical ($1,515,558), and Wicked ($1,487,873).
With one less show running on Broadway, the 22 productions brought in an overall gross of $21,334,228, down 18% from the previous week. Attendance was also down 9%, with 189,965 people catching a show on the Main Stem with an average paid admission of $112.31. Both grosses and attendance should increase dramatically as the new crop of plays and musicals for the 2023-2024 season begins opening.
In addition to the five highest-earning productions, five other Broadway shows took in over $1 million at the box office, while half of the shows played to 90% capacity or more.
