Steve H. Broadnax III, who directed the Broadway bow of Keenan Scott II's Thoughts of a Colored Man, will play the role of Doub in Arkansas Repertory Theatre's upcoming production of August Wilson's Jitney.
Directed by Interim Artistic Director Ken-Matt Martin, performances of Jitney, part of Pulitzer Prize winner Wilson’s award-winning Pittsburgh/Century Cycle, will play the Arkansas venue August 6-18.
The cast will also feature Victor Musoni (61st Street, Chicago Med) as Youngblood, Ryan Broussard (Only Murders in the Building, Take Me Out) as Booster, Robert Cornelius (South Side, Shameless) as Becker, Anthony Irons (Chicago Med, Empire) as Turnbo, Ireon Roach (Candyman, 4400) as Rena, Aaron Smith (Fences, The Piano Lesson) as Fielding, and Will Adams (Pride & Prejudice) as Shealy.
Jitney follows a group of men trying to eke out a living by driving unlicensed taxis. When the city threatens to board up the business and the boss’ son returns from prison, the fragile threads binding these people together may come undone.
The play, which debuted Off-Broadway in 2000, began previews at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre December 28, 2016, prior to an official opening January 19, 2017. The production played 21 previews and 62 regular performances before closing March 12, 2017. Wilson's play was named the 2017 Tony winner for Best Revival of a Play.
The upcoming production will also have costume design by Celeste Jennings, scenic design by Sydney Lynne, lighting design by Levi J. Wilkins, and sound design by Luke Mitchell. Kaila Madison will be the production stage manager.
