59E59 Theaters continues its annual Brits Off Broadway festival with two works written and directed by Alan Ayckbourn, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 2010.

Written 40 years apart, the New York premiere of Confusions, one of his most studied plays, is joined by the U.S. premiere of Hero’s Welcome, his latest work.

Hero’s Welcome, his 79th play, began performances May 26 for a limited engagement through July 2. The new work sees a man returning to his old neighborhood after 17 years. The cast features Stephen Billington, Elizabeth Boag, Russell Dixon, Evelyn Hoskins, Charlotte Harwood and Richard Stacey.

Confusions began performances May 28 for a limited engagement through July 3. “From a devoted and isolated mother, to her unfaithful traveling salesman husband, through a solicitous waiter to well-heeled diners and an utterly shambolic garden fete, human frailty is laid bare as one hilarious situation after another unfolds,” state production notes of Ayckbourn’s 1974 play. The cast features Billington, Boag, Dixon, Harwood and Stacey.

Both productions are presented by Stephen Joseph Theatre. The design team for both plays includes Jason Taylor (lighting designer) and Michael Holt (production designer). The production stage manager is Veronica Aglow.

Tickets can be purchased by calling Ticket Central at (212) 279-4200 or by visiting 59e59.org.
