The event will feature Vanessa Williams, Norm Lewis, Wynton Marsalis, and more.

The Black Theatre Coalition (BTC) has announced their inaugural virtual gala, Building New Pathways, which will stream March 27 at 7 PM ET.

The fundraiser celebrates BTC's second year of cohorts and programming. The event is free to the public, but requires registration. All donations will go directly to the BTC Fellowship program.

Building New Pathways is a celebration of the past, present, and future artistry of Black talent in the American theatre. The evening will include performances from Black theatrical trailblazers, interviews with members of the inaugural group of BTC Fellows, and a conversation with Trouble in Mind's LaChanze and Charles Randolph Wright.

Performers will include Grammy winners Wynton Marsalis and Kenneth Overton, Tony nominee Norm Lewis, Tony honoree Britton Smith, Christiani Pitts (King Kong, A Bronx Tale), Alex Newell (Once On This Island), Aisha Jackson (Paradise Square, Frozen), T. Oliver Reid (Hadestown, Once On This Island), Rashidra Scott (Company, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Brandon Michael Nase (Cats), and Emmy nominee Vanessa Williams. The evening will be directed by Daniel Calderon with script by Jess Carson (The Flash) and music direction from Michael O.Mitchell (MJ).

Black Theatre Coalition Fellowships are one-year placements specific to the opening or ongoing operations of Broadway productions. Each Fellowship provides a $50,000 annual salary, and the opportunity to participate in the efforts of mounting a Broadway production. The Fellowship also provides mentorship and guidance from Black professionals currently working in the industry. As of 2022, BTC has more than 30 Fellows placed throughout the industry. Applications for the next class of Fellows will be made available in May.
