Between The Lines, which begins Off-Broadway's Tony Kiser Theater June 14, has announced a series of Meet the Author talkbacks with New York Times Bestselling Author Jodi Picoult following select performances.
Picoult, who wrote the source novel for the musical, will be joined by her collaborator and daughter, Samantha Van Leer, for appearances following the June 28, June 29, June 30, July 2, July 22, and July 23 performances.
Between The Lines will star Arielle Jacobs (Aladdin, Wicked), Jake David Smith (Frozen), Vicki Lewis (Anastasia, Damn Yankees), Will Burton (Kiss Me, Kate; Hello, Dolly!), Jerusha Cavazos (The Prom), John Rapson (Les Misérables) and Julia Murney (Wicked, The Wild Party).
The new musical follows Delilah, an outsider in a new school who seeks comfort in the pages of her favorite book, where she feels heard and understood. Soon, the lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur, and she has to confront whether she has the power to rewrite her own story.
The show is directed by two-time Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun (Newsies) and choreographed by Paul McGill (The Legend of Georgia McBride). The book is written by Timothy Allen McDonald (Emmet Otter’s Jug- Band Christmas, James and the Giant Peach) and music and lyrics are by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson (Central Park).
The musical features scenic design by Tony nominee Tobin Ost (Newsies), costume design by two-time Tony winner Gregg Barnes (Mean Girls), lighting design by Drama Desk Award nominee Jason Lyons (Rock of Ages), sound design by Ken Travis (Aladdin), projection design by Caite Hevner (In Transit), hair & makeup design by Drama Desk nominee J. Jared Janas (Jagged Little Pill), orchestrations & arrangements by Tony nominee Gregory Rassen (Bandstand) and music direction by Daniel Green (Almost Famous).
Between the Lines made its world premiere at Kansas City Repertory Theatre in 2017. The Off-Broadway debut is produced by Daryl Roth, with co-producers Elizabeth Armstrong, Andrew Paradis, Sullivan Entertainment, and Tom Tuft. Though the Kiser Theater is owned and operated by Second Stage Theater, Between the Lines is not a Second Stage production.
