An upcoming movie musical steeped in the world of community theatre has added some musical theatre notables to its cast. Per reporting in Variety, Bernadette Peters, Bonnie Milligan, Halle Bailey, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, Maulik PancholyJulianne Moore, Havana Rose Liu, Paul Giamatti, and Jesse Eisenberg will star in the currently untitled project.

Eisenberg is also writing and directing the film—about a shy woman (Moore) who loses herself in a role after being cast in a community theatre musical—to feature original songs also penned by Eisenberg. The film has landed at Oscar-winning production house A24, with Topic Studios and Fruit Tree (the banner of Broadway alum Emma Stone) producing.

The film's creative team also includes Tony-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, music supervisor Steven Gizicki (La La Land), executive music producer Bill Sherman (In the Heights), and cinematographer Drew Daniels (Anora).

While Eisenberg has spent the bulk of his career in Hollywood, the native New Yorker got his start on the stage, both as a performer and writer. His stage acting credits have included serving as an understudy in a 1996 Broadway revival of Summer and Smoke and a full professional debut in Arje Shaw's The Gathering Off-Broadway in 1999; he made his playwriting debut with Asuncion at Off-Broadway's Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in 2011.

No release date or production schedule has been revealed for the upcoming release. Production reportedly began this month.
