Additional recipients have been announced for The Actors’ Equity Foundation's 2023 awards ceremony, which will be held June 26 at the Actors' Equity Association national headquarters in Manhattan.
Two-time Tony winner Bebe Neuwirth will host the event for the Foundation, the non-profit organization supporting the professional theatre community. Newly announced recipients include Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell, who will receive the Patrick Quinn Award, established in 2007 to honor an individual who has worked tirelessly for the betterment of actors; and stage manager Mary K Klinger, who will receive the Michael McCarty Recognition Award, given to a theatre professional (not a star) who has made a life in the theatre.
Michael McCarty, a veteran Equity actor who died in 2015, left a portion of his estate to establish an award to be presented annually to an Actors’ Equity member over the age of 50 residing in Los Angeles. Patrick Quinn, who passed away in 2006, served as Equity's President from 2000-2006 and held many leadership positions within the union; he was also a founding member of Equity Fights AIDS.
Previously announced honorees include Darius de Haas, who will receive the St. Clair Bayfield Award; Michael Patrick Thornton, who will receive the Joe A. Callaway Award; 2023 Tony winners Alex Newell and Bonnie Milligan, who will receive Clarence Derwent Awards; and Linda Lavin and Francis Guinan, who will receive the Richard Seff Award. 2021 Paul Robeson Award recipient Dale Ricardo Shields will also be presented with his award June 26.
The upcoming event will also feature live music from pianist Tina deVaron.
Lupita Nyong'o, Katrina Lenk, Jelani Alladin, and more were on hand to celebrate the October 31 opening night of Michael R. Jackson and Anna K. Jacobs' new musical.
