News Audra McDonald, Carolee Carmello and Marc Kudisch Will Make It Rain With the Old Globe Audra McDonald, who starred in the title role of Michael John LaChiusa's Marie Christine, will reunite with the composer to star in a reading of his new musical Rain.

Held in New York City and presented by San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, the reading will feature Tony nominee Carolee Carmello (Scandalous, Parade) as Louisa, Angel Desai (Company, The Tempest) as Noinoi, Tony nominee Marc Kudisch (9 to 5, The Apple Tree) as Alec, Luba Mason (Jekyll & Hyde, Chicago) as Anna, McDonald (Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun) as Sadie, James Joseph O'Neil (Present Laughter) as Hopper/Governor's Man, Tommy Schrider (War Horse) as Quartermaster/Kiwi, Will Swenson (Hair, Les Miserables) as Alfred and Paul Whitty (Once) as Jo. Robbie Simpson will provide stage directions.

Rain features a book by Sybille Pearson (Baby, Giant) and music and lyrics by LaChiusa (Giant, Marie Christine).  

Old Globe artistic director Barry Edelstein will direct the reading, which is based on the short story of the same title by W. Somerset Maugham.

"When their ship is quarantined on a rainy island in the South Pacific following an outbreak onboard, a group of travelers check into a boarding house," press notes state. "The arrival there of another passenger, the prostitute Sadie Thompson, turns their lives upside down."
