Young plays the spoiled young slave trader who is transformed by a series of incidents into an ardent opponent of slavery, and the lyricist of the title hymn. Cooper plays his long-suffering slave.

Rudetsky's weekly live talk show, which includes interviews and performances from Broadway stars, is now held at 5 PM (to accommodate 7 PM curtains) at the New York cabaret Don't Tell Mama. There is a $10 donation and a two-drink minimum.
