Amanda Ryan (Closer, Shameless) has replaced Amanda Donohoe (The Graduate, Uncle Vanya) as Magdalena in the upcoming world premiere of Terry Johnson's The Sex Party at London's Menier Chocolate Factory. Donohoe has withdrawn for personal reasons.
Originally scheduled to begin previews November 4, the production will now commence performances November 7 prior to an official opening November 15.
Directed by the playwright, the limited engagement will continue through January 7, 2023. The cast also features Will Barton as Tim, Lisa Dwan as Gilly, John Hopkins as Jake, Oscar winner Timothy Hutton as Jeff, Jason Merrells as Alex, Pooya Mohseni as Lucy, Molly Osborne as Hetty, and Kelly Price as Camilla.
In the play, four couples gather in a suburban London home for an evening of wine, cheese, and more intimate pleasures. Some are curious, some are more familiar, and one is rather unexpected.
The production also has designs by Tim Shortall, lighting by Ben Ormerod, and sound by John Leonard.
Playwright-director Johnson won the 2010 Tony for Best Direction of a Musical for directing the revival of La Cage aux Folles. His playwriting credits include Dead Funny, Prism, Ken, Insignificance, Cries from the Mammal House, Hysteria (Olivier Award for Best Comedy), Piano/Forte, Hitchcock Blonde, The Graduate (West End and Broadway), Mrs. Henderson Presents (West End and Toronto), Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick (Olivier Award for Best Comedy), and The London Cuckolds.
