The National Theatre's revival of Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls, directed by Lyndsey Turner, has found its principal cast. The spring production is scheduled to begin previews March 26, 2019, ahead of an April 3 opening.
The cast will feature Liv Hill (Jellyfish) as Angie, Katherine Kingsley (The Dusty Springfield Musical) as Marlene, Wendy Kweh (The Bill) as Lady Nijo, Amanda Lawrence (Angels in America) as Pope Joan, Ashley McGuire (The Suicide) as Dull Gret, Ashna Rabheru (Indian Summers) as Kit, and Siobhan Redmond (Royal Shakespeare Company) as Isabella Bird.
In Top Girls, Marlene is the head of the Top Girls employment agency, and with the spirit of optimism consuming parts of the country, she's certain that the future belongs to women like her. But first, she needs to host a dinner party for some of history's most memorable women.
The production will feature set design by Ian MacNeil, costume design by Merle Hensel, lighting design by Jack Knowles, and sound design by Christopher Shutt.
Further casting will be announced.
Churchill's plays include Light Shining in Buckinghamshire, recently seen Off-Broadway at NYTW, Serious Money, Love and Information, Escaped Alone, and Cloud Nine, among many more. Top Girls was seen on Broadway in 2008, and at the Huntington Theatre Company earlier this year with direction by Liesl Tommy.
