Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Matthew Paul Olmos' A Home What Howls (Or the House What Was Ravine) beginning February 7. The work centering on youth activism will play the Chicago venue through March 2. Laura Alcalá Baker is at the helm.
Olmos' modern myth drawn from the real-life struggles of displaced communities around the globe follows Soledad Vargas, who is fighting for her family’s right to live on their land. When hope starts to dwindle, how far will she go, and what will she be forced to leave behind?
The cast includes Tim Hopper (Downstate, Chicago and Off-Broadway) with Charín Álvarez (I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, ¡Bernarda!), Leslie Sophia Pérez (I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter), Isabel Quintero (La Osa Menor) and Eddie Torres (Downstate, Chicago and Off-Broadway).
The production features scenic design by Lauren Nichols, costume design by Uriel Gómez, lighting design by Lindsey Lyddan, sound design Peter Clare, original music by April Dawn Guthrie, fight choreography and intimacy consultation by Maya Vinice Prentiss, vocal coaching by Kate DeVore, music consultation by Mike Przygoda, casting by JC Clementz CSA, and dramaturgy Bryar Barborka. Patrick Zakem serves as creative producer. Elise Hausken serves as production manager, alongside production stage manager Michelle Medvin and assistant stage manager Kathleen Barrett.
