Featuring music by Curtis Moore, lyrics by Thomas Mizer and a book by Moore, Mizer and Joshua Scher, the musical plays through Aug. 2 at the Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto.
Performances began July 8, prior to an official opening July 11, as part of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's 2015-16 season.
Triangle was originally commissioned in by Williamstown Theatre Festival as part of their LeapFROG new works program. It was further developed at The O'Neill's 2006 National Music Theater Conference (directed by Robert Longbottom) and in readings at CAP 21 and Northwestern University's American Musical Theatre Project. It continued development at TheatreWorks' 2012 New Works Festival and was directed by Meredith McDonough, who helms the current production.
Here's how it's billed: "In an inspiring journey through time, a high-tech scientist learns that his New York lab was once the site of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, and discovers his mysterious connection to several of its Jewish immigrant victims. In this compelling contemporary musical, parallel romances unfold a century apart, interweaving two star-crossed couples willing to risk everything they have, and believe, for love."
The cast features Laura D'Andre, Ross Lekites, Megan McGinnis, Zachary Prince, Sharon Rietkerk and Rolf Saxon. The Lucie Stern Theatre is located at 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. For tickets and information, visit www.TheatreWorks.org or call (650) 463-1960.
