I hear a French accent! Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Haiti. I speak French and Creole.

Do you ever go back and visit?
I went there six years ago after the earthquake and unfortunately, I didn’t get to see what I left behind in 1995. I wanted to walk around the capital and the area where I used to live, hang out and go to school, but everything was destroyed. That hurts. When you live in a different country, you’re always thinking and dreaming about home—in most of my dreams, I’m in Haiti.

How long have you been in New York?
Twenty-one years now.

What do you do for work?
I work as a driver and bellman at the Marriott Hotel in Long Island.

What is the most satisfying part of your job?
Meeting new people. Some people really appreciate what you do for them and make you feel special just by thanking you.

Why are you in the theatre district today?
I like to come to the city in the summer time, it’s beautiful and exciting. I go to bars and restaurants, and I enjoy watching people walking around. The best-looking women are in Manhattan!

Do you ever go to the theatre?
Absolutely! On Broadway, I’ve gone to see The Color Purple and Sister Act.

What do you like about seeing a show on Broadway?
It’s perfection, the way they sing and perform. You don’t see flaws or mistakes.
