PREVIEWS

Sept. 10: "The Good Wife" star Mamie Gummer plays a discharged soldier from Afghanistan in Roundabout Theatre's Ugly Lies The Bone. Left scarred both physically and emotionally, she escapes into a virtual reality world.

Sept. 10: The new two-actor musical Daddy Long Legs — by Tony Award-nominated composer-lyricist Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre) and Tony-winning librettist-director John Caird (Les Misérables) — begins its open-ended run at the Davenport Theatre. The story follows the love story, told in letters, between a young Cinderella-type orphan girl and her mysterious benefactor. 

Sept. 11: New York Theatre Workshop's company-in-residence Elevator Repair Service presents the world premiere of Fondly, Collette Richland by Sibyl Kempson, its first collaboration with a living playwright. The play follows the adventures of a couple who, while eating a quiet dinner at home, are mysteriously summoned through a tiny door into an alternate universe. 

Sept. 15: Is love this strong destined for tragedy? Nina Arianda and Sam Rockwell return to the stage to play the volatile pair in Sam Shepard's Fool for Love. The two played the leads in the acclaimed Williamstown production, now beginning previews on Broadway.  Sept. 17: Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Harold Pinter's Old Times kicks off starring Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Clive Owen, Kelly Reilly and Tony nominee Eve Best

OPENING

Sept. 17: What are the limits of your faith? Pastor Paul is faced with this question and many more in Lucas Hnath's The Christians, which played a critically acclaimed debut run at the Humana Festival and will now officially open Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons. The production features a rotating 20-person choir of local New York City singers.

CLOSING

Sept. 12: After 14 years, the much-loved Broadway production of Mamma Mia! will sing its final "Dancing Queen." Don't miss this last chance to shimmy in the aisles and sing to your favorite ABBA tunes.

Sept. 13: Taye Diggs takes his final bow as the sharp-tongued and lovable Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Since opening last spring, John Cameron Mitchell's musical will have played almost 500 performances.

Sept. 13: Tony winner Alex Sharp plays his final performance as the ever-fascinating young Christopher in the acclaimed staging of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, a production that is bursting with imagination, just like the story itself.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Sept. 12: Multi-platinum recording artist Josh Groban kicks off his national tour in Atlanta, celebrating the launch of his album "Stages," a collection of musical theatre favorites.

Sept. 14: "Dancing with the Stars" winner Rumer Willis, the eldest daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, makes her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in the current revival of Chicago for an eight-week engagement. 

Sept. 14: Kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month, Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine perform a concert of their greatest hits at the Minskoff Theatre, including "Get On Your Feet," "Conga," "Rhythm is Gonna Get You," "Mi Tierra" and more.

Sept. 15: Five-time Emmy and Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris embarks on a career-defining journey as the host of his own show, NBC's "Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris."

Sept. 20: Don't miss the 67th Annual Emmy Awards, broadcast on FOX at 8 PM, live from Los Angeles. The ceremony recognizes excellence in the television industry, including a number of stage performers. 

Sept. 20: 54 Below stages Broadway Back to School, a benefit to support theatre arts education for undeserved students and schools, co-hosted by Susan Blackwell and Hunter Bell and featuring a string of Broadway performers.
