Reed Birney Attached to Reading of New Play from My Favorite Year Librettist | Playbill

News Reed Birney Attached to Reading of New Play from My Favorite Year Librettist The Irish Repertory Theatre continues its free reading series with Joseph Dougherty's Chester Bailey, featuring Tony nominee and Drama Desk winner Reed Birney (Casa Valentina, I'm Gonna Pray for You So Hard).

Birney will be joined by Noah Robbins (Punk Rock, The Vandal) with direction by Ron Lagomarsino (Driving Miss Daisy); the reading is open to the public and will take place Jan. 30 at 3 PM at the DR2 Theater.

Chester Bailey centers on an injured young man post-World War II and the relationship he forms in the wake of his recovery. According to press notes, "Chester Bailey denies what’s happened to him has actually happened... which is how he comes under the care of Dr. Philip Cotton. Older and wounded in his own ways, Cotton is charged with leading Chester back to a reality consisting of pain and loss. The journey is not what either man expected."

Dougherty is a Drama Desk nominee whose play Digby was staged at Manhattan Theatre Club. He wrote the libretto for the Tony Award-winning musical My Favorite Year, produced at Lincoln Center Theater. An Emmy winner for his writing on "Thirtysomething," he also written for the popular television series “Judging Amy,” “Once and Again,” “Saving Grace,” and the current hit “Pretty Little Liars.”

The Irish Repertory Theatre reading series is now in its ninth season, with the mission of giving playwrights, both emerging and established, the opportunity to develop new work.

RSVP's are strongly encouraged by calling (212) 727 2737. The DR2 Theater is located at 103 East 15th St., New York.
