Regina King, who won an Academy Award earlier this year for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk, will direct the screen adaptation of Kemp Powers’ play One Night in Miami, according to Deadline.

The drama is set on the historic night in 1964 when a 22-year-old Cassius Clay celebrated winning the world heavyweight boxing champion title with three of his closest friends: football star Jim Brown, singer Sam Cooke, and activist Malcolm X. The play, which was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2017, imagines what happens the night the four men celebrated Clay’s victory before he became known as Muhammad Ali.

Playwright Kemp penned the screenplay.
