Melissa Ross Premiere Replaces Richard Greenberg's The Swing of the Sea at MTC | Playbill

News Melissa Ross Premiere Replaces Richard Greenberg's The Swing of the Sea at MTC Manhattan Theatre Club has announced that the New York premiere of Melissa Ross' Of Good Stock will replace the previously announced world-premiere Off-Broadway production of Tony Award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg's The Swing of the Sea.

Of Good Stock will be directed by MTC artistic director Lynne Meadow. Performances will begin June 2 at New York City Center - Stage I. It will officially open June 23.

"At the request of playwright Richard Greenberg and director Lynne Meadow, MTC has agreed to postpone The Swing of the Sea in order to give these artists more time to work on the production of the play," MTC representatives said in a release. Swing of the Sea, which was to mark the 11th collaboration between Greenberg and MTC, was to begin performances May 26 Off-Broadway.

Of Good Stock is billed as a raw and hilarious rumination on family. "The three Stockton sisters are witty, brilliant, beautiful – and a total mess, thanks to the legacy of their complicated novelist father. In Melissa Ross’ new play, these women gather at their family home on Cape Cod for a summer weekend. Their reunion ignites passions, humor, and wildly unanticipated upheavals."

The play will arrive in New York after a world-premiere production at South Coast Repertory Theatre's Pacific Playwrights Festival in April. South Coast Rep commissioned the play.

The creative team will include Santo Loquasto (scenic design), Tom Broecker (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design) and Jill BC Du Boff (sound design). Casting will be announced at a later date.

Ross' plays include Thinner Than Water, You Are Here, Do Something Pretty, The Allies and An Entomologist's Love Story.

MTC subscribers with tickets for The Swing of the Sea will be contacted by MTC. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 9 and will be available by calling CityTix at (212) 581 1212, online by visiting nycitycenter.org. MTC's New York City Center - Stage I is located at 131 West 55th St., New York.
