Benefits and Galas LaChanze, Mary Testa, and Betsy Wolfe Will Perform at Transport Group Gala The annual A Toast to the Artist gala will honor Michael Starobin and Carmel Dean.

Transport Group's annual A Toast to the Artist gala will be held March 11 at 6:30 PM at The Current, Pier 59 @ Chelsea Piers.

The evening will honor Tony-winning orchestrator Michael Starobin (Next to Normal, Assassins, Once On This Island) and composer Carmel Dean (Renascence) with the Transporting American Theatre Award, which recognizes significant contributions to the American theatre.

Past recipients include Dick Scanlan, Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Michael John LaChiusa, Gretchen Shugart, Barbara Whitman, Beth Williams, Sue Frost, Christian Borle, Paul Huntley, Douglas Carter Beane, Lewis Flinn, A.R. Gurney, Liz Smith, Barbara Frietag, Terrence McNally, and Joe Mantello.

The gala includes a cocktail party, seated dinner, performances, dessert reception, and silent and live auctions. Attendees can expect performances by Tony winner LaChanze, multiple Tony nominee Mary Testa, Betsy Wolfe, and Trey Anastasio, as well as members of the cast of the Transport Group production of Renascence: Mikaela Bennett, Hannah Corneau, Jason Gotay, Daniel Harris Kornfeld, and Katie Thompson.

Transport Group stages new works and re-imagines revivals by American writers. Since its founding in 2001 under the artistic direction of Jack Cummings III, the company has produced 28 shows comprised of 13 new works and 15 revivals, including 16 plays and 12 musicals.
