Industry News Dramatists Guild Announces Inaugural Compensation Study for Theatre Writers

The study seeks to increase pay transparency for dramatists across the United States.

The Dramatists Guild of America has announced its inaugural compensation study, which seeks to increase pay transparency for dramatists across the United States.

Theatre writers are invited to participate in the study by sharing what they are paid for their work in the industry, the sources of that income, and the circumstances that have affected their compensation.

Once this knowledge is gathered, the Guild will be able to strengthen its advocacy efforts for best pay practices across the country, in addition to establishing equitable guidelines and pay scales.

Said Amanda Green, President of the Dramatists Guild: “The Dramatists Guild’s Compensation Study is the first of its kind and has the potential to be a game changer for theatre writers and for the entire theatre industry. We are surveying writers in confidence and gathering information and statistics about what theatre writers are paid and how they are paid. We plan to gather information vital to help advocate for the financial well-being of playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists. We hope to use our findings to empower theatre writers to sustain and support themselves financially while embarking upon their creative work.”

All writers, regardless of Guild membership, are invited to participate. If you are not a Guild member, you can sign up to participate in the study via this link.
