The Harry Potter actor, recently seen Off-Broadway in Privacy, will play Rosencrantz in the play's 50th anniversary production, which will be directed by David Leveaux. Joshua McGuire, who appeared with Radcliffe in the series A Young Doctor's Notebook, will play Guildenstern.
Performances are scheduled for February 25-April 29, 2017, at the Old Vic Theatre.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, which debuted on Broadway in 1967 starring John Wood and Brian Murray, is a typically twisting Stoppard comedy using two of Hamlet's minor characters as a launching pad for comical contemplations of the universe. The two existential heroes never really know who they are or why they are there, but they whittle away their time playing verbal tennis and other intellectual games before meeting their ultimate fate. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern was made into a film in 1990 with Tim Roth and Gary Oldman in the title roles.
Ticket information has yet to be announced.
Radcliffe was last seen on the London stage in 2013 in a production of The Cripple of Inishmaan.
