Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez Host Impromptu Talkback After Cancelled Merrily We Roll Along Performance

When the show's December 26 performance was cancelled due to tech issues, its stars stepped in for an audience Q&A.

A performance of Merrily We Roll Along on December 26 did not roll along as planned, as a delay caused patrons to wait in the audience for an hour before the show was ultimately cancelled. The cold front that caused chaos across the Northeast during the holiday weekend led to necessary production equipment freezing. Although the show was not able to go on, a talkback could.

Merrily stars Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez banded together to provide audiences with an experience they could still take home, standing on stage in full costume as they took questions from the crowd.

The moment the bad-then-somewhat-glad news was delivered can be seen in a video uploaded to TikTok. "Despite everybody's best efforts, and believe me, huge best efforts are being made, we do not have an immediate solution on hand," Radcliffe said to the audience. Then, the trio was met with excited noises from the crowd as Groff added: "We have a little bit of time before we have to get out of mics and costumes, so we thought if you have any questions for us. Do you wanna tell us what you got for Christmas?"

Audience questions ranged from asking about the production to the stars' pre-show rituals. And the trio were happy to oblige. When asked if doing the same show from day to day ever gets old, Groff expressed nothing but unwavering enthusiasm: "I'm like an addict. I might be the saddest person in the theatre tonight that the show isn't happening. I was driving from Pennsylvania ... this morning, and I might've listened to Merrily in the car."
