If the Chicago Teachers Union goes on strike beginning October 11, the Lookingglass Theatre (recipient of the 2011 Regional Tony Award) will offer classes for students grades K-5 at the theatre.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the teachers union met Wednesday to begin the final stretch of contract negotiations before a threatened strike next week.

Lookingglass will “provide high-quality, dynamic programming, focusing on physical theatre and drama,” according to the company’s website. “Mornings will be spent learning physical theatre skills, which may include juggling, tumbling, and stage combat. During the afternoon, students will learn to use their actors’ tools – body, mind and voice – as they explore the ‘Lookingglass method,’ which emphasizes invention, transformation, and collaboration.”

Space is limited, and registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes will be held from 9 AM-3 PM and cost $65 per day.
