Grosses Broadway Grosses Analysis: Bad Cinderella and A Doll's House Play to Full Crowds During 1st Week

The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and the Jessica Chastain-led revival both began previews last week.

It was actually a good week for Bad Cinderella

Although it only played two previews at Broadway's Imperial Theatre, the newest musical from composer Andrew Lloyd Webber played to 100% capacity crowds, bringing in $318,478 at the box office during the week ending February 19. The Jessica Chastain-led revival of A Doll's House also arrived on Broadway the same week, playing seven performances at the Hudson. That production also brought in the crowds, playing to 96.59% capacity and earning $803,303. 

Overall, grosses were up on the Main Stem. With 22 shows running, the total gross was $26,853,298, over $3 million more than the previous week's $23,064,393. Attendance was also up: 194,575 people enjoyed a Broadway show, compared to the previous week's 192,323 people. 

Another Lloyd Webber musical, The Phantom of the Opera, continues to be the undisputed hot ticket on Broadway. Sales at the Majestic have been increasing since the long-running production announced it will close in April. With $2.5 million last week, the West End import was again the top-grossing show on the Main Stem, followed by Hamilton ($2,000,798), The Lion King ($1,929,702), Funny Girl ($1,883,332), and MJ The Musical ($1,823,742).

In addition to Bad Cinderella, other productions that played to 100% capacity or more included Hamilton, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and The Phantom of the Opera. Those playing to 90% capacity or more included & Juliet, A Doll's House, Aladdin, Between Riverside and Crazy, Chicago, Funny Girl, Hadestown, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Kimberly Akimbo, MJ The Musical, Six, The Book of Mormon, The Lion King, and Wicked.
