Brenda Edwards will return to the role of Matron "Mama" Morton in the U.K. and Ireland tour of Chicago. The actor, who made her West End debut in Chicago, will play the Sunderland Empire (June 2-4), Cardiff New Theatre (June 20-25), Winter Gardens Blackpool (June 28–July 2), Sheffield Lyceum Theatre (July 5-9), Norwich Theatre Royal (July 11-16), and New Theatre Oxford (July 18-23).
The tour is currently playing in São Paulo, Brazil, at Teatro Santander and is set to conclude in Oxford, UK.
The cast also includes Lee Mead as Billy Flynn, Faye Brookes as Roxie Hart, Djalenga Scott as Velma Kelly, Jamie Baughan as Amos Hart, and B.E. Wong as Mary Sunshine. Completing the roster are Ishmail Aaron, Michelle Andrews, Gabby Antrobus, Delycia Belgrave, Joel Benjamin, Tanisha-Mae Brown, Daniel Clift, Callum Fitzgerald, Emily Goodenough, Billie Hardy, Aaron Jenkins, Liam Marcellino, Theo Reece, Hollie Jane Stephens, and Harrison Wilde.
The X Factor semi-finalist Edwards also played Motormouth Maybelle in the U.K. tour of Hairspray, Nettie Fowler in Carousel at the London Coliseum, and Killer Queen in We Will Rock You, both the West End and U.K. tour.
Set in the 1920s, the musical tells the story of nightclub dancer Roxie Hart who murders her lover after he threatens to walk out on her. To avoid conviction, she hires Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer. The six-time Tony Award-winning show was created by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse, and is currently the longest-running American musical in Broadway and West End history. The score includes “Razzle Dazzle,” “Cell Block Tango,” and “All That Jazz”.
