Among the highlights of ABT's programming at City Center are two world premieres: Philip Glass's A Musical Portrait of Chuck Close choreographed by Jorma Elo, and From Here On Out by Benjamin Millepied.
Elo's ballet set to Musical Portrait will include three new movements composed by Glass, with the entire score played live by pianist Bruce Levingston. (The original musical work about the painter and photographer was premiered in 2005.) The Elo/Glass/Close ballet, with a set designed by Close and costumes by Ralph Rucci, will debut on October 27.

Millepied's ballet for 12 dancers is set to a commissioned score by young American composer Nico Muhly, and features costumes designed by Millepied and lighting by Roderick Murray. Millepied, a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, choreographed Capriccio in 2006 for NYCB and Circular Motion (2005) for the ABT Studio Company; this is his first work for the full company.

ABT's fall City Center season also includes two company premieres. George Balanchine's 1978 Ballo della Regina, set to music from Verdi's Don Carlo, will have its first ABT performance tonight. Also new to the repertoire is Twyla Tharp's 1979 Baker's Dozen. Choreographed for 12 dancers in five sections, the work is set to music by Willie "The Lion" Smith and features costumes by Santo Loquasto and lighting by Jennifer Tipton. The ballet will be staged for ABT by Elaine Kudo.

Revivals planned for the company's fall season in New York include Antony Tudor's The Leaves Are Fading, last performed by ABT in 1997, and Agnes de Mille's Fall River Legend, last performed in 1999. Repertory returning this season includes Lar Lubovitch's Meadow, Stanton Welch's Clear and Jerome Robbins's Fancy Free.
