Samuel D. Hunter's A Case for the Existence of God has received its third extension, with the production now set to continue Off-Broadway through June 5. The world premiere run was originally set to close May 15 at the Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center. Previews began April 12 for the production which opened May 2. Reviews for the show can be read here.

Tony winner David Cromer directs the play exploring alienation and companionship through the story of Keith and Ryan, two men who unexpectedly choose to open up each of their worlds to the other inside a cubicle in Souther Idaho. Former college roommates Kyle Beltran and Will Brill co-star in the two-hander.

In a statement, Hunter said, “In the play, there are moments of lashing out on both characters’ parts — and I think it’s because culturally we don’t have a language for platonic male love, especially between a straight man and a gay man. The expectations of gender norms compacts men’s—and especially straight men’s—emotional and spiritual lives as they grow up. In the play, as their lives cave in and they lose the little control they have, the friendship they cultivate for one another is really through the condition of being bound up in a ball.”

The creative team also includes scenic designer Arnulfo Maldonado, costume designer Brenda Abbandandolo, lighting designer Tyler Micoleau, sound designer Christopher Darbassie, dramaturg John Baker, and production stage manager Katie Young. Casting is by Caparelliotis Casting. The show closes out Signature's 30th anniversary season.
